Cawdor
Location: Cawdor, NSW
Year: 2022 - Present
Located at the peak of the property overseeing the vast undulating land and vegetation surrounding, this family home becomes a sanctuary within its surrounds. A winding road leads up to the ridgetop retreat, where a charmingly simple yet highly considered modern homestead sits. Three simple articulated pavilions wrap around protected courtyards and entertaining areas, while keeping the nature intact by having the grassy slopes of the hill continue up to the home. This robust family home is a refuge amongst its surrounding, and actively explores the relationship between building and landscape.
Located below this home within the landscape is a secondary dwelling. This allows for the habitation of another family member upon the same site. This home has been designed to sit seamlessly within the landscape. 180-degree views of the breath-taking backdrop called for a respectful celebration of the location, and so instead of providing the same view throughout the home with wall-to-wall glass, the design creates considered framed glimpses of the picturesque surrounds that lay outside; both within the primary and secondary dwelling.
