Grasmere II
Location: Grasmere, NSW
Year: 2021 - Present
An architectural experience inspired by nostalgia, charm and sentiment. This family home gives nods to many charismatic, warm styles, yet uniquely speaks its own architectural language reflecting its users, place and time. Inspired by fleeting sensory moments of warmth, texture and smell, the home will utilise tactile, raw and natural materials to evoke and create new memories of comfort, connection and closeness. This multi-sensory design approach, creates architecture that is for the moment, and after the moment. The carefully planned spaces cater for the needs of a growing family and will become a place that is fondly remembered and cherished as part of the family narrative. The design promotes meaningful relationships between the architecture and users, where in many ways the design operates as a framing device outlining spaces for life to happen. The home is rich in character and soul, speaking to the senses and it will forever be an anchor for a collection of family memories.
The entry is central to the home, elevated from the natural topography, pouring out to living and bedroom wings and further beyond to the pool and surrounding landscape. The open plan living spaces pose expansive ceiling heights and exposed structural elements up to the roof form. These large volumetric spaces are filled with light, and pose a physical connection to nature. The pool is a key feature of the backyard, surrounded by additional entertaining spaces. These outdoor entertainment areas act as a seamless extension from the indoor living areas, posing a combination of both open and covered spaces for entertainment and living.
