Nestled into its sloping site, traces of this family home are almost completely camouflaged from the street. Concrete walls wrap around the envelope of the home, enabling a layer of privacy for the occupants. Beyond these walls, this home and detached secondary dwelling unfolds into a generous sprawling plan within the landscape.
Designed to accommodate a young family, the design prioritises the physical and visual connections to the immediate bushland landscape through a careful balance of prospect and refuge felt in internal spaces. The design aims to erase the boundaries between the building and the landscape through introducing an intricate layer of planting not only around the built form but also within and on top of it, acting as an extension of the current ecosystem.
The home addresses the challenge of privacy and view captivation by being incredibly bold in its approach to directional views, adopting a minimalistic material palette, and allowing internal spaces and voids to be desirable vistas just as much as the external views.
