With this being our first international project, the design embodies strong emotional connections and memories of both Ireland and Australia. This home echoes history, personal experiences, family values and traditions. The building is inspired by the processes of storytelling and conversation, personifying both ‘talking’ and ‘listening’. There is a distinct link between both stories and memories, where by the design aims to promote human connection through communication and interaction. The experience of a story is set to leave a lasting impact, where we remember the things that create an emotion. Therefore, we aim for this home to tell a story and leave a lasting impact on those that experience it.
Typical Irish homes tend to execute the colour and form of its surrounding environment. We have therefore taken this cultural idea on board in ensuring the structure does not conflict with the environment and is rather an attempt to create an impression of fusion with nature. Overall, this design executes how both Australian and Irish cultural identities are examined, paralleled and drawn together. The two parts make more than one whole, telling a unique story of intertwined history, beliefs and local practices.
